The year-end period brings about a flurry of flight searches for the new year.
‘Tis the season to start planning for the 2018 holidays because we all know that being “kiasu” often equates to massive savings, especially when it comes to flight bookings.
Given this, travel search engine KAYAK has collated enough data to determine the most-searched and trending destinations in 2018 among Singaporeans.
Let’s have a look at the list of destinations as well as the average trip duration.
- Tokyo (8 days)
- Taipei (6 days)
- Seoul (7 days)
- Bangkok (4 days)
- Hong Kong (4 days)
- Sapporo (7 days)
- Bali (4 days)
- London (11 days)
- Osaka (7 days)
- Penang (4 days)
Wonder how much savings you can reap from booking early? Here’s an idea: Flights to Tokyo, Taipei, and Seoul (the top three destinations) cost an average of 23%, 19% and 31% more during the final week of travel. On average, Singaporean travellers could risk paying up to 38% more for last-minute flight bookings!
Kayak has also shared ten destinations with a rise in year-on-year search growth together with their average flight prices in 2018:
- Rome (S$786)
- Boston (S$1,369)
- Ipoh (S$221)

- Cebu (S$274)
- Yangon (S$228)
- Dubai ($545)

Ranking at first place is Rome, with an increase of searches by a whopping 409%!
The three European destinations on the list – Rome, Amsterdam and Athens – all clocked less than S$900 for average flight prices in 2018, which means that… a holiday to Europe is calling?
Wherever you plan to go, just remember to book your flights early so you’ll have more to spend at the destination itself.
