When the Justice League movie premiered in 2017, most of us came out of the theatre underwhelmed, to say the least. Reports said that there were a lot of reshoots that took place when Joss Whedon took over as director in post-production after Zack Snyder stepped down due to personal reasons. However, Whedon’s version was rumoured to be a far cry from Snyder’s vision.
For one, the released Justice League movie was exactly two hours, while Snyder had a three and a half-hour long unfinished movie tucked away in a place we know not where. So not long after the premiere, Zack Snyder fans and critics alike got word of this unreleased Snyder cut — and they went nuts.
The hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut began to trend; and so, superhero movie lovers started to place a small amount of faith in DC films again, hoping that the Snyder cut would do justice to our awesome DC superheroes. Snyder even told Hollywood Reporter, “#ReleaseTheSnyderCut is the most-tweeted hashtag about a movie that WB has ever made, but it’s a movie they’ve never released.”
What we know about the Snyder cut so far
Now after three years, HBO Max is rewarding DC fans for their passionate clamour to see the Snyder cut. The Snyder cut is set to stream on HBO Max in 2021. But there’s yet to be word if this will be an uninterrupted four-hour movie or if the movie will be split into chapters. What we do know is that Warner Bros. is giving the Snyder cut a whopping $20 to $30 million budget.
The Snyder cut, after all, is still unfinished. Snyder still has to finalise visual effects, music scores, and probably even bring back the actors to record additional dialogues!
“It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie,” said Snyder in an interview.
