When was the last time you just stopped and enjoyed the view? In Japan, it’s sometimes difficult for both locals and tourists to simply stand still and breathe as there seems to be an endless amount of things to do in the Land of the Rising Sun. So, to remind people of the value of stopping and living in the moment, the Seiryu Miharashi train station was opened in March 2019.

What to expect
Seiryu Miharashi station is found in the Yamaguchi Prefecture between the Naguwa and Nekasa stations — meaning it’s located in the middle of nowhere. It has no entrance or exit. The most travellers get is a platform where they can stand and enjoy the view of the verdant mountains. The train station is accessible on the Nishikigawa Seiryu Line with only speciality trains available to take interested passengers to this unusual platform in the middle of nowhere.
If you’re interested to visit the Seiryu Miharashi station someday, don’t expect to find any roads or maps pointing to a nearby location. There’s nowhere else to go on foot or on a vehicle. They mean it when they say they created this mysterious railway spot so that travellers have no choice but to stop and wait for the next train to arrive.
While travellers wait, they’re encouraged to enjoy the isolation of the Nishiki River and bask in the pureness of the mountainous landscape. Throughout the year, there are autumn leaves, migratory birds, and even snowy scenery to behold. It’s the perfect place to be alone with your thoughts, reflect, or simply slow down from the busyness of life.
