Patricia CaleonHong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is about to get a little more expensive for departing passengers. Just recently, the airport authority has announced an increase in the Passenger Security Charge (PSC) to fund the establishment’s security upgrades and smart screening systems.

The new Passenger Security Charge fees
Starting 1 January 2025, travellers departing Hong Kong will now face a HK$65 (S$11.25) PSC, a HK$10 (S$1.73) increase from the current fee. This marks the first adjustment to the passenger security charge since 2021.
Apart from this, the airport authority also hints at further price hikes. Airlines will now be required to collect HK$75 (S$12.98) from passengers in a phased approach starting 2027. The exact timeline should depend on passenger traffic growth over time.
