The entropy theory of ageing
The study, led by Fangli Hu from Edith Cowan University in Australia, discusses the concept of entropy. Traditionally, aging is viewed as a gradual biological decline. However, Hu’s research introduces a novel perspective, applying entropy—a measure of disorder—to understand how aging occurs.
According to the study, aging is often seen as an increasing disorder within the body’s systems. By introducing new experiences, promoting social interactions, and engaging in constant physical activity, travel can actually help manage and even combat this entropy, potentially slowing some aspects of the aging process.
The benefits of travelling
The study also highlights several ways in which travelling can contribute to a healthier and more youthful lifestyle:
- Stress reduction: Immersing in new environments, such as forests or beaches, can significantly reduce stress levels.
- Physical sctivity: Travelling often involves walking, hiking, or cycling, which can enhance cardiovascular health, muscle strength, and overall well-being.
- Social interaction: Meeting new people, both locals and fellow travellers, can improve your mood, reduce feelings of loneliness, and enhance cognitive function.
- Healthy eating: Travelling opens your doors to exploring new, fresh, local foods, promoting healthy eating habits.
- Wellness and relaxation: Wellness centres and outdoor spaces found in many travel destinations can support physical and mental well-being.
