What makes these tigers so special?
Their unique golden hue, often referred to as “strawberry tiger” colouration, is caused by a rare recessive gene. This genetic quirk affects their pigmentation, resulting in a stunning golden coat that sets them apart from their more common orange-striped counterparts.
Golden tigers are incredibly rare. While white tigers are already a rarity, appearing in only one out of every 10,000 tiger births, golden tigers are even more elusive. It’s estimated that there are fewer than 100 golden tigers worldwide.
So, next time you’re in Thailand, be sure to swing by the Chiang Mai Night Safari. You might just fall head over heels for Eva and Luna, the cutest golden tiger sisters around!
