The Korea Electronic Travel Authorization (K-ETA) is a travel permit introduced to streamline entry for short-term visitors. Travellers from eligible countries must typically apply online before their trip, paying a 10,000 KRW fee. The process includes submitting personal information and travel details and is valid for multiple trips over two years.

To celebrate Visit Korea Year (2023-2024) and boost the tourism industry, Korea’s Ministry of Justice has extended the K-ETA exemption period by an additional year. Initially set to expire in December 2024, the exemption will now remain in effect until 31 December 2025 (KST).

This means travellers from 22 eligible countries, including Singapore, can enter Korea for short-term stays without applying for a K-ETA. However, the exemption applies only to leisure and business travel, not to activities requiring specific visas.

Countries Eligible for K-ETA Exemption

Here are the 22 countries benefiting from the exemption:

  • Asia-Pacific: Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Macao, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan
  • Europe: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, UK
  • North America: Canada, US (including Guam)

If your country is on this list, you can continue to enjoy hassle-free entry into Korea until the exemption period ends!

Why You Might Still Want to Apply for K-ETA

Although the exemption saves you the 10,000 KRW application fee, there are still benefits to applying for K-ETA:

  1. Skip the Arrival Card: K-ETA holders do not need to fill out a paper arrival card upon landing in Korea, speeding up immigration procedures.
  2. Validity for Multiple Trips: Once issued, the K-ETA is valid for two years, making it convenient for frequent travellers.
