Hallstatt Village in Austria
Nothing is really impossible with China. Here’s a project no other country would dare – a copycat of the entire village of Hallstatt, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site in Salzkammergut, Austria. Built by the Chinese mining company China Minmetals Corporation, the world’s first cloned village officially opened its doors in Huizhou, Guangdong province of China on June 2, 2012.

Inside the Hallstatt replica in China
While some Hallstatt residents are not comfortable with their village being cloned, Hallstatt’s mayor Alexander Scheutz saw a positive effect of the project on the tourism industry of the “original” Hallstatt. Today, the Chinese Hallstatt serves as residential area for the rich people with various shops and pathways for tourists.
