Bisti / De-Na-Zin Wilderness may look like an alien planet with the bizarre clusters of rocks forming like shelters of the extraterrestrials, but it’s actually a 45,000-acre wilderness area located in San Juan County, New Mexico, USA.
Unbelievably, this eerie landscape was once buried beneath an ancient sea. Soil erosion, withering, volcanic activity and other elements have created unusual formations in the area over the years. It looks as though it’s uninhabited but a variety of birds, reptiles and other animals can be found there. Today, the wilderness is open to public allowing activities such as hiking, photography, horseback riding and camping.
