Who would have thought a town named Dildo exists. It is too nasty a word to be associated with a place that has no pertinent connection with its present meaning. This peaceful town in Newfoundland, Canada has attracted many visitors due to its hilariously insane name. The exact etymology of the word Dildo still remains a mystery. Some said it was used in the 18th century to describe anything cylindrical. Others say it was referred to a pin placed in a rowboat, or a type of shrub. While others believed it was used as a bastardized form of Italian diletto (“delight”).
Regardless of its origin, Dildo is considered a sex toy nowadays and any conservative person would not want to live in “Dildo”. There were a number of campaigns to change the name, but they all failed. Every summer, the town celebrates the Annual Dildo Parade.
