Budget Malaysian airline Firefly will suspend all its flights from Singapore starting from 1 December 2018, the same date that they were supposed to commence operations at the new Seletar airport, until further notice.
On its Facebook page, the low-cost carrier, which is a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, stated that their flights into Singapore from 1 December 2018 will be suspended until the relevant authorities have cleared remaining matters in relation to the Singapore authority’s plans to move turbo-prop operations from Changi International to Seletar. It also said that authorities have yet to provide a definitive timeline for the delay, and will only be able to resume flights to Singapore only upon final approval.
Firefly is the only airline to provide turboprop flights between Singapore and Ipoh, Kuantan and Subang and operates 20 flights daily. According to FireFly chief executive officer Ignatius Ong, the suspension will affect up to 13,000 passengers and that arrangements are being made for those affected.
