One tourist was also seriously injured in the incident.

The peaceful atmosphere of the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Bali shattered on 10 Dec when a large tree collapsed, killing two tourists and injuring another. The falling tree fatally struck a 32-year-old French woman and a 42-year-old South Korean woman. A 43-year-old South Korean woman sustained serious injuries.

The incident, which occurred around 12.10pm local time, has deeply impacted the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and the wider community in Bali. The sanctuary management attributed the incident to a sudden and strong gust of wind. However, it has raised concerns about visitor safety within the natural environment.

Following the tragedy, the sanctuary was immediately closed to the public on 11-12 Dec. This is to allow for a thorough investigation and to ensure the safety of visitors and staff.

The Sacred Monkey Forest, a renowned sanctuary home to over 1,260 macaques, is a popular attraction for both domestic and international tourists. It is a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural significance, deeply revered by the local Balinese community.
