After a few weeks of minor eruptions, Bali’s Mount Agung, located in the island’s east, finally unleashed its wrath and erupted at 7.23pm on 24 May 2019. The lava was spewed up to a radius of up to 3km from the crater.
Resulting from this eruption were thick ash clouds, which caused flight cancellations and delays for flights to and from Bali. Airlines affected included AirAsia and Jetstar.
However, Bali is still safe to travel to as Mount Agung is located far from the popular spots in the south of the island.
