Bridgerton Season 2: Release Date, Trailer, and Sneak Peek Photos!

‘Bridgerton’ Season 2 Is Premiering Soon: Here’s Everything We Know So Far

We’re ready for more gossip, romance, and a whole lotta drama from the Ton.

If we were to name some good things to come out of the abysmal year that was 2020, Bridgerton would certainly be one of those. (Granted, it’s quite a short list, but hey, we’ll take what we can get.) This lavish period drama remains to be Netflix’s biggest record-breaking series, and even surpassed initial forecasts on how successful it would be. So, imagine our delight when Netflix confirmed a Bridgerton Season 2 — less than a month after the pilot season premiere!

Then again, with labels like “the 19th-century England version of Gossip Girl” and “a steamy, feminist take on strict, old-fashioned social norms,” how can you not find the storyline alluring?

Anyway, read on for all the juicy details we know so far. We very much look forward to another round of lavish gatherings, social season antics… and more high-society tea spilt than at the Boston Tea Party.

What will Bridgerton Season 2 be about?

As most of you probably know by now, the Netflix dramedy-romance series is based on the novel series by Julia Quinn. The first season was inspired by the first book, The Duke & I, with Daphne Bridgerton as the main character. Logically, the second season will follow events from book two — that is, The Viscount Who Loved Me.

The spotlight will be on Daphne’s moody and debaucherous brother, Anthony, whom we last saw getting heartbroken by his illicit lover. This time, he’s back on a quest for marriage (nope, not exactly love) as he finally finds his ideal debutante. The only problem? His fiancée’s disapproving sister, who’s very much the same overprotective sibling that he is.

And in true Anthony Bridgerton fashion, expect things to get quite messy. Especially when that older sister, Kate Sharma, ends up getting too close to the elusive bachelor. (Not that we can blame her, TBH.) In the latest teaser, we witness the first meeting between the eldest Bridgerton and his new love interest.

Update: Netflix recently released a first-look video that left us wanting more.

It’s not exactly the friendliest of first meetings, based on Kate’s comeback at Anthony’s demanding “requirements” with this season’s debutantes. And yet, his immediate fascination with this feisty newcomer is quite obvious.

Clearly, Kate is having none of Anthony’s pompous statements when he himself has quite the reputation as a rake. Things are shaping up to be a gossip-filled social season, indeed.

Who will be part of the Bridgerton cast in Season 2?

Playing the role of this scheming female lead is Simone Ashley. The Netflix announcement described her Bridgerton character as “a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included.” And in case you’re wondering why she looks familiar, you’ve probably seen her as Olivia in the other Netflix series, Sex Education

Other new characters in Bridgerton Season 2 include: Edwina Sharma (played by Charithra Chandran), Kate’s younger sister and Anthony’s betrothed; Lady Mary Sharma (Shelley Conn), their mommy dearest; and Theo Sharpe (Calam Lynch), a printer’s assistant-slash-human rights activist. Another newcomer is Jack (Rupert Young), a character who wasn’t in the books, but is said to be a mysterious new member of the ton.

But wait, there’s more — the Bridgerton siblings’ late father, Edmund, will also make an appearance in Anthony’s flashbacks. He will be played by Rupert Evans, best known for his roles in Charmed, Hellboy, and The Man in the High Castle

A few possible spoilers ahead…

Remember the final scene from the first season that featured a shot of a bee? Well, that’s actually one of the show’s Easter eggs! It’s a callback to how Edmund Bridgerton died from a bee sting; and a foreshadowing of what’s to come in Bridgerton Season 2. We, for one, are absolutely intrigued by how much his death has affected Anthony.

What about the other characters, you ask? While the Duke of Hastings won’t be back (*major tears*), good ol’ Daphne will still play a major role. After all, it’s now her turn to be the over-involved sibling to her eldest brother, as confirmed by Nicola Coughlan in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

Speaking of Coughlan, who plays the wily Penelope Featherington — aka Lady Whistledown — her own character will continue stirring up drama. “So she’s more aware of the power she wields, but that doesn’t mean she’s any better at using it,” she shared with E! News. Oh, and she may or may not reveal her identity to one other character. (*Queue gasps.*)

When is Bridgerton Season 2 release date?

Bridgerton Season 2 is premiering on 25 Mar 2022. And after spending the past month and a half keeping our eyes and ears peeled for more news, Netflix has finally released the official trailer!

They’ve also released first look images of the upcoming season. Best believe we’re counting down the days till Bridgerton Season 2 premieres.

What else is next for Netflix’s Bridgerton?

Aside from the highly anticipated Bridgerton Season 2, the show has also already been renewed for a third and fourth season. Although, word on the street is that Van Dusen is actually aiming for eight seasons in total! “I would love to be able to focus and really tell stories and love stories for all the Bridgerton siblings,” he said in an interview with Collider.

We’re definitely on board with this, especially since there are also eight books from Julia Quinn’s novels.

What’s more, Netflix and Shondaland also confirmed that there’ll be adding a spin-off to the Bridgerton-verse! This one will be a limited prequel series focusing on Queen Charlotte — specifically, her love life and rise to royalty. Other Regency aunties who will be appearing as their younger selves are Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury!
