In case you missed it: An X-ray machine caught fire at gate holdroom D46 in Changi Airport Terminal 1 on 6 Aug 2024 at around 6.30am. The cause of this incident was due to an electrical fault. As a result, departing passengers at the gate had their flights delayed, extending their wait by approximately two hours.

Eyewitness to the incident
Passengers witnessed the X-ray machine emitting fire and smoke as they gathered to observe the situation. According to an eyewitness who was on a Scoot flight that was bound for Denpasar, Bali, passengers were moved to a different departure gate due to the incident. The user reported that the smoke became significantly more intense at one point, prompting an evacuation of the departing passengers.
A phone recording of the incident captured the events which unfolded as the X-ray machine caught fire and attracted a crowd of people to the scene. Another eyewitness mentioned that the fire was the last thing he and his companion expected after a lengthy layover at Changi Airport, waiting for their connecting flight to Bali.
Keeping the situation under control
A Changi Airport Group (CAG) spokesperson stated that an electrical fault caused a small fire in the X-ray machine. The fire was quickly extinguished by staff who were present at the scene. Passengers in the gate holdroom were redirected to another gate holdroom, and no injuries were reported.
Ongoing investigations by authorities
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was called to Changi Airport Terminal 1 around 6.40am to handle the situation, but the fire had already been put out by airport staff upon their arrival.

As of now, airport personnel and other relevant authorities are conducting investigations into the cause of the electrical fault which sparked this incident.
