China has recently made significant changes to its visa policy to better facilitate cross-border travel and boost economic development.
What we know about China’s plans for easier border entry
In the most recent update, the country implemented a unilateral visa-free policy for ordinary passport holders from 15 countries: Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Australia, and Poland. Travelers from these countries can enjoy visa-free access to China for up to 15 days for business, tourism, family visits, and transit. If you’re from Singapore, you can relish an extended visa-free stay of up to 30 days. The policy will be in effect until 31 Dec 2025, making travel to China easier for many.

China’s 144-hour visa-free policy, which allows travelers from 54 countries to stay without a visa for up to 6 days, has now been expanded to include 37 exit-entry ports. This latest update now allows travelers to enter from three additional ports: Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, Lijiang Sanyi International Airport, and Mohan Railway Station. It also allows travel to eight additional areas: Lijiang, Yuxi, Pu’er, Chuxiong, Dali, Xishuangbanna, Honghe, and Wenshan.
