Event Highlights: Star Wars Run and Star Wars Festival 2018 in Singapore

The second edition of the Star Wars festival will be back in Singapore this May the 4th, and here’s what you can expect.

It’s time to get excited, Star Wars fans! Come this May the 4th, Star Wars Day: May The 4TH Be With You Festival will return to our sunny island once again together with the highly anticipated Star Wars Run. Following a whopping turnout of over 15,000 participants in last year’s debut, The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia and local race organiser Esprimo have decided to bring the run and festival back again for a second edition with the support of Singapore Tourism Board — an announcement that’ll make any Star Wars fan jump for joy. 

The Star Wars Festival

Be transported to a galaxy far, far away at the two-day festival led by a group of Star Wars fans, #MAYTHE4THSG & friends. Soak in the sights and sounds of all things Star Wars with the stellar line-up of fun games, activities, and performances!

When: Friday, 4 May 2018, 3-11pm & Saturday, 5 May 2018, 11am-11pm

Meet Pink Astromech Droid, R2-KT and Albin Johnson, the founder of 501st Legion

Seize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to catch the first-ever appearance of Albin Johnson, the founder of the international Star Wars costuming organisation, 501st Legion! Catch Albin’s first-ever appearance in Southeast Asia as he moves around the festival grounds.

R2-KT, a stunning pink astromech droid which appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, will also be there! Custom made by Albin to watch over his beloved late daughter, Katie Johnson who was diagnosed with brain cancer, R2-KT has become a symbol of remembrance for Katie and for raising awareness of paediatric illnesses.

Kids Fashion Parade: Watch adorable little ones dressed up as Star Wars characters

Children up to 12 years old are invited to dress up as their favourite Star Wars character and sashay along the walkway in a kids fashion parade held on 5 May. There will be two categories – 5 to 12 years old and 4 years old and under. Three participants in every category with the most creative costumes and ability to personify the character stand to win attractive prizes.

Register your child early – there are goodie bags for the first 40 registered participants!

Costumers’ March-In and Meet & Greet: Interact with some of your favourite Star Wars characters

Festival-goers can look forward to a colourful, spectacular march-in by Star Wars fans cosplayed in fancy Star Wars costumes along with R2-KT, the pink astromech droid. Don’t miss out on snapping some photos with your favourite Star Wars characters as they roam around the festival grounds!

When: Friday, 4 May 2018, 7pm & Saturday, 5 May 2018, 1pm and 7.30pm

Pewtersmithing Workshop: Create your own personalized pewter dish

Dive deep into the Star Wars action and explore the art of pewtersmithing at Royal Selangor’s School of Hard Knocks. Exclusive to the first 200 registrations at S$50 per person, you will learn how to create your personalized pewter dish and bag home a special edition Star Wars Run Singapore 2018 dish. Rope in a friend to enjoy a discounted price of S$80 for two.

When: Friday and Saturday, 4-5 May 2018, 3-11pm (sessions will be at 30-minute intervals)

Movie Under the Stars: Catch a Star Wars movie marathon

The fun doesn’t stop after you finish the run. There will be an outdoor cinema at the race village showing Star Wars films! So you know what to do — grab a drink, some food, and get settled in for a movie marathon.

When: Friday, 4 May 2018, 8.30pm & Saturday, 5 May 2018, 9pm

The Star Wars Run

This year, the run will be held at the F1 Pit Building and the Marina Bay area. Similar to last year, participants can choose which side they want to be on — to congregate with the Resistance on the Light side or to follow in Darth Vader’s footsteps to be part of the Dark side. Whichever side you choose, both routes are lined with engagement zones featuring light projections, music, and photo opportunities that’ll promise a run experience unlike any other.

Runners will also get different coloured race entitlements including a commemorative medal and a finisher t-shirt, unique to the side that they’ve picked. And for those of you who are in it to win, you’ll be happy to know that the first three male and female finishers in the 10km competitive category will be rewarded with a special trophy sponsored by the event partner Royal Selangor, Garmin Forerunner watch (worth up to S$599) and prize money up to S$1,000!

Apart from having new elements in the run, this year will also see the addition of one more race category — the 540m Young Jedi dash for younger children who are unable to qualify for the other categories.

Runners in the 5.4km non-competitive category will also get to be a part of a first-of-its-kind flag-off, where the Dark side and the Light side will run in opposite directions. There will also be a spectacular pyrotechnics display during the flag-off at 7.30pm and 8pm.

Limited edition merchandises including a 55-cm Electronic Lightsaber – choose from Rey (Starkiller Base), Darth Vader or Yoda, and Solo: A Star Wars Story Golden Village Collectible Movie Card Combo will also be sold from S$12.90 to S$29.90. Registered runners will be able to purchase these items via the online store.
