To call this place a mall would be an understatement, since there’s so much more to the K11 than shopping.
K11 MUSEA, Asia’s arguably most forward-thinking cultural-retail hybrid has opened its doors to the public. Located in the heart of Hong Kong’s Victoria Dockside, the new cultural-retail destination is the brainchild of Adrian Cheng, founder of K11 Group and pioneer of the “museum-retail” concept.
Armed with an ambitious goal to make K11 MUSEA the “Silicon Valley of Culture”, Cheng has brought together 100 creatives, who hail from different disciplines and cultures, for this project. The aim is to bring art, architecture, design, sustainability and all forms of cultures into one place, thereby enriching the everyday life of the modern conscious consumer.
K11 Musea: Where Culture Meets Retail
Firstly, K11 MUSEA aims to become Asia’s next top cultural attraction. In fact, there are a slew of prestigious line-up of arts and cultural events slated to take place. From 12 to 17 November, the landmark will host the Asian debut of Festival de Cannes Film Week, one of the most prestigious film festivals around the world.
There will be an exhibition of traditional Chinese crafts from the K11 Craft & Guild Foundation, which aims at preserving fast-disappearing Chinese craft. These pieces are available for viewing and purchasing at K11 MUSEA. For those interested in modern crafts, you will be glad to know that K11 MUSEA will house the biggest MoMA design store in Asia. K11 MUSEA will also serve as a platform for world-renowned and emerging artistic talents. In fact, the cultural-retail destination will feature artworks scattered throughout the building’s 10 stories, and its outdoor complex as well. Similar to a mall and museum combined, K11 MUSEA’s 10-storey complex and its surroundings are conceived as a public art space.
K11 MUSEA will begin with a debut art collection featuring works from over 40 leading international and Hong Kong contemporary artists. To understand more about these artworks, visitors can join a guided art tour or download an accompanying digital guide.
