KL’s New Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT Line is Now Up and Running

With 19 stations and 7 interchanges, the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line is the newest MRT line serving Klang Valley, Malaysia.

A year after phase one began its operations, the second and final stage of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line is ready for operations!

The SBK line is one of three rail lines planned for Klang Valley in Selangor, and runs from Sungai Buloh in the northwest, through the Kuala Lumpur city centre, to Kajang in the southeast of the area. With 19 new stations up and running, phase two completes the 51km line totalling 31 stations at otherwise underserved urban districts in Klang Valley.

A train ride on the SBK line costs between RM1.10 to RM6.40, and offers the cashless Touch N’ Go option, making it an extremely affordable alternative mode of transport. Additionally, to foster a greener environment in the area, the line’s Park & Ride facilities encourage commuters to switch to riding the rail instead of driving into Kuala Lumpur city.

Although this new MRT service mainly targets residents staying along the line, it nonetheless helps tourists beat the jam-packed roads into the city centre, which is lined with numerous vibrant shopping complexes ranging from glitzy bazaars to outlet malls. On top of that, most major stations have an extensive underground network connecting them to the surrounding facilities. With malls like Sunway Giza, Pavilion KL, and Bangsar Shopping Centre now so much more accessible, we can’t wait to plan our next shopping trip to Malaysia!
