Loh Kean Yew’s Wife Gives Birth to a Child While He Was at the Paris Olympics

Loh Kean Yew’s Olympic dream may have taken a hit, but he’s got a new champion to cheer for at home: his newborn baby!

From a world champion to a father

The former Badminton World Federation champion shared this delightful news with an Instagram post on 7 Aug that his wife had given birth to a baby boy.

“Welcome to the world, our precious little one,” he wrote.

An outpour of support from the public

Loh Kean Yew surprised fans with the news of his newborn son. The badminton star welcomed his first child when he was in a training camp at Denmark two weeks ago, as revealed by CNA. Fellow athletes like Viktor Axelsen and Lee Zi Jia were among the first to congratulate the new dad.

After his recent Olympic stint in Paris, Loh returned home to Singapore on 5 Aug.

The Singaporean shuttler went up against Axelsen in the quarter-finals, putting up a strong fight before ultimately falling to Axelsen, who went on to win the gold medal in the men’s single group.

Loh Kean Yew returned to Singapore on 5 Aug after a strong Olympic campaign. The badminton star gave a commendable performance in the quarterfinals, putting up a good fight with the formidable Viktor Axelsen.

Grateful for his family

In his caption, Loh expressed his gratitude for his family who supported him in his journey that led up to the Paris Olympics. He also thanked his wife’s parents for taking care of her during her pregnancy journey which was instrumental in helping him to focus on his training leading up to tournaments.

Loh and his wife got married in Feb 2023.

He has made it clear that he is more than ready for this transition into fatherhood as he plans to “add ironing into [his] daddy duties.”
