The world’s very first Muji hotel has opened its doors to the public at Shenzhen, China on 18 Jan 2018 and sent all Muji fans – or Mujirer, as it is known in Japan – into a frenzy.
Offering more than just a hotel stay, the 79-room Muji hotel is located in Upperhills, a business complex in Futian District. The hotel is part of an integrated three-in-one development that also comprises of a Muji Diner, Muji retail and event space. Known for its simple pale wood aesthetic and subtle details, Muji seeks to provide guests with a personal experience of the ‘Muji philosophy’ – from the texture of the towels down to the placement of light switches.

Rooms
As expected, Muji hotel is an epitome of the theory “less is more”.
The rooms in Muji hotel focus on the essential purpose of providing comfortable accommodation for guests to sleep well and restore their mind and body. The interior design is a minimalist’s #roomgoals, with a simple palette of neutral earthy tones and clean streamlined space with monochromatic furniture, including hardwood floors and pale-grey walls made of diatom ooze to control the rooms’ humidity.
There are five different room types which range from 26 to 61 square metres. Rates per night range from $145 to $385 and the price will remain the same in different seasons, as revealed by Muji.
Amenities
Amenities in the Muji hotel include Muji Diner, a full-service restaurant; Muji Books, a 24-hour library; and the largest Muji retail store in China.
Muji Diner serves an eclectic mix of speciality home-cooked dishes using only the freshest seasonal ingredients packed with high nutritional value. For breakfast, guests get to indulge in a delectable semi-buffet, with a choice of either Chinese, Western, or Japanese cuisine. Later at night, the restaurant would transform into a hipster bar serving a wide range of alcoholic beverages.
Set on the third level of the public area in Muji Hotel, Muji Books is a 24-hour library where guests and the public can browse through over 650 books in a tranquil environment.
The Muji store on the second and third floors is the largest Muji store in China, with a size of approximately 1,726 square metres. Besides travel necessities, guests can find quality Muji furniture, storage goods, food and cosmetics in the store. Workshops and events are also held regularly in the store and the customer’s communication space “Open MUJI”.

Further expanding its line of hotel operations, Muji is slated to open its second Muji hotel at Beijing on 20 Mar 2018 while its first Japanese hotel in Ginza, Tokyo will open its doors in spring 2019.
