Outside of its bright cities and quaint towns, the United States has always been known for its wilderness and vast outdoors. In fact, some of the best natural landscapes in the country can be found in the heart of national parks such as Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon. But what if we told you that you could visit any of these national parks in the USA for free?
Yes, you’ve read that right! On five specific days in 2023, you’ll be able to visit any national park in the USA without an entrance fee. Here’s what you need to know.

When can I visit national parks in the USA for free?
On these dates, the National Park Service will waive the entrance fees at more than 400 parks throughout the country:
- Mon, 16 Jan: Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday
- Sat, 22 Apr: First day of National Park Week
- Fri, 4 Aug: Third anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
- Sat, 23 Sept: National Public Lands Day
- Sat, 11 Nov: Veterans’ Day
However, do take note that while the entrance fees are free on these days, visitors still have to pay additional fees for amenities. These include camping, transportation, special tours, and more.

Which national parks in the USA should I visit?
Besides Yellowstone and the Grand Canyon, there are so many parks to visit in every state. Up north, Alaska’s Denali National Park & Preserve is famous for its tundra climates, fascinating wildlife encounters, and views of glaciers. In the southeast, Everglades National Park in Florida has stunning views of mangroves and rivers.
In the northeastern region, Acadia National Park in Maine is a perfect choice if you want to experience scenic drives and hiking trails.
