On first look, this elegant structure looks like a man-made wonder popping up in the middle of the sea. This construction is actually a dam in Rayong province, Thailand. The magnificent dam is built to control the massive flooding that happen frequently in Thailand, and water is being irrigated to benefit the cities by providing cheap renewable power. The two men in the picture are fishermen while on their daily routine to fish.
Due to Rayong’s heavy dependence on fruit farms and livestocks, dams are understandably not welcomed around the area for fear that a split-second breakdown from the dam means an irreparable damage to the province’s plains. However, the dam was eventually built when the residences were convinced of its multi-beneficial purpose.
