Even the strongest of all architectural structures deteriorates over time but not this one. Found at the base of Mount Arera of Bergamo, Italy, Cattedrale Vegetale, also called the “Tree Cathedral”, totally defies your image of a cathedral. It’s not an ordinary concrete structure but a living one that gets stronger over time.

It consists of 42 cage-like columns that form a basilica of five aisles. The tree columns will eventually decay and the hornbeam saplings within them will continue to grow, forming an organic, living cathedral.

The brainchild of late Italian artist Giuliano Mauri, Cattedrale Vegetale is probably the most epic natural architecture you will ever see. No doubt it has become an interesting destination for art lovers and spiritual pilgrims. Who knows, this cathedral might just stay forever.
Don’t miss this natural cathedral when you visit Italy.
