Some of the islands in Florida Keys are uninhabited like the one pictured above. This hexagon-shaped fortress named Fort Jefferson is constructed by the US in 1825. It is an unfinished and unused coastal fortress which is considered the largest masonry structure in the US.

Although living in this island fortress may be impossible due to the absence of fresh water, camping and guided tours are available. It can be reached by ferry, chartered seaplane or a private yacht. The island has a gift shop too but there is no available food so it’s wise to bring your own food to munch during your tour.
