There are quite a number of bizarre places you won’t believe exist on our planet and one of them is Socotra Island. The plants growing on this island are so strange that you might just forget that you’re still on Earth. Socotra Island, also spelled Soqotra, is a small archipelago of four islands in the Indian Ocean, 240 kilometres east of Africa and 380 kilometres south of the Arabian Peninsula. It may seem very remote and far away, and it’s actually part of Yemen.

Recognised as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site, Socotra Island is home to many endemic species of flora and fauna. In fact, the island has about 700 endemic species found nowhere else on the planet. Some of the most remarkable plants thriving on the island are the dragon trees and bottle trees (pictured above). Their out-of-this-world shape and appearance is something you should definitely see for yourself!
