The Tree of 40 Fruit is too good to be true, but yes, this single tree is going to bear 40 different kinds of fruits in the future. Sounds unbelievable, but with the creative mind of contemporary artist Sam Van Aken, this groundbreaking hybrid tree is possible.
The Tree of 40 Fruit is an ongoing series of hybridized fruit trees where different types of stone fruits such peaches, plums, apricots, nectarines, cherries and almonds will grow from one single tree. This is made possible through the asexual reproduction process called grafting.

Once the hybrid trees are fully established, they will be scattered across different places of the United States. Sam Van Aken’s project does not aim to totally solve the problem of hunger, but it somehow educates people to reconsider innovative possibilities of fruit and food production.
