Hear ye, hear ye! In light of the social distancing measures amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the queen of England has extended her Norfolk home to the public for much-missed movie nights! Sandringham Estate, which is where Queen Elizabeth and her family normally spend their holidays, will be open to moviegoers from 25 to 27 September 2020 (Friday to Sunday) to host screenings of classic and recently awarded films.
The catch? Guests have to stay in their cars to establish social distancing while each movie plays. They will only be charged £32.50 per car. We’ve seen the drive-in theatre trend proliferate all around the world, most notably in America, during this global health crisis. Suffice to say, such an old-school method of watching films still seems to resonate with people from all walks of life. Now, it looks like the royal family wants in on the action by giving the people of England a well-deserved cinematic escape during the weekend.

The visitors will be asked to park at the Sandringham Country Park and will be given transmitters to hear the film audio from their car. A shared giant LED screen will be provided for everyone. Visitors can book their slot or ticket online, but a first-come-first-serve basis will apply when picking a spot to park. In addition, guests can also upgrade their reservation for an extra £7.50 per person. This will include private access to a deck chair, and a table and popcorn that will be delivered to the guests’ vehicle.
The movie schedule is as follows:
- Friday, 25 Sep – 1917 at 5pm; Rocket Man at 9pm
- Saturday, 26 Sep – Toy Story at 1pm; The Greatest Showman at 5pm; Bohemian Rhapsody at 9pm
- Sunday, 27 Sep – Moana at 1pm; Grease at 5pm; A Star Is Born at 9pm
