There’s a country that has claimed the crown as the leading destination in Asia, and that is none other than Sri Lanka.
Not Bangkok, Phuket or Hong Kong, but the island nation of Sri Lanka!
This was revealed at the World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia 2017 that was held in Shanghai recently. Winners were decided based on online votes placed by industry leaders and travel professionals.
Trailing behind Sri Lanka in the category of Asia’s Leading Destination 2017 are these countries:
- China
- India
- Indonesia
- Korea
- Macau
- Malaysia
- Singapore
- Thailand
- Vietnam
Sri Lanka also took the title of the Leading Adventure Tourism Destination in Asia.
While there are many great reasons to visit Sri Lanka – such as stunning beaches, wildlife safaris and adrenaline activities – it usually hides under the radar, overshadowed by more trendy destination in Asia such as Japan and Thailand.
Now that Sri Lanka is shining in the spotlight, perhaps it’s time for you to direct your attention to it too!
