The automated biometric identification system will streamline the entire airport process. Here’s how it’s going to work:

  1. Initial registration: Passengers will need to provide their biometric information during the check-in process, either at the counter or through a self-service kiosk.
  2. Passport-free travel: Once registered, travellers can then process through the airport without having to present their passports or boarding passes. The facial recognition system will verify their identity at multiple checkpoints, including security screenings and boarding gates.

Airports implementing the new system

These six airports will be equipped with the facial recognition technology:

  1. Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK)
  2. Don Mueang International Airport (DMK)
  3. Chiang Mai International Airport (CNX)
  4. Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai International Airport (CEI)
  5. Phuket International Airport (HKT)
  6. Hat Yai International Airport (HDY)
