There’s Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea – and then there could be one more.
According to multiple sources including Kotaku, Tokyo Disney is planning a major expansion, including building a third Disneyland in the country.
While the nitty-gritty details are not out yet, the official release (via Mainichi News) suggests that the theme will be “Japan”. This would mean attractions, rides and characters that reflect the history and culture unique to the country.
The new theme park is part of a US$2.7 billion investment plan by Oriental Land Company, the business that operates Tokyo Disney Resort. More details should be released by May next year, but construction might not begin until 2025.
In the meantime, there are other things to look forward to in the already-established theme parks: a Beauty and the Beast section in Fantasyland, a Big Hero 6 attraction in Tomorrowland, a Broadway-style theatre and a Soarin’ show. These new features will debut in 2020.
That leaves you plenty of time to plan a fun-filled Disney holiday in Japan!
