Ever dreamt of visiting a Studio Ghibli theme park? Well, that dream is about to come true!
Slated to open in 2020, the Studio Ghibli theme park will be housed within the Aichi EXPO Park in Nagoya, Japan. The park will be based on My Neighbour Totoro, an iconic Japanese animated movie directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli in 1988. The film features the story of two young girls and their interactions with friendly forest spirits in postwar rural Japan. One of these forest spirits is Totoro, an incredibly cute and furry character who is well-loved in Japan and around the world.
Instead of having exhilarating rides, the park will be focused on recreating the world of My Neighbour Totoro in a way that does not harm the environment, which is in line with the movie’s theme of celebrating and embracing nature.
Other than My Neighbour Totoro, the Tokyo-based animation film studio is also well-known for other famous anime feature films such as Ponyo, Princess Mononoke and Academy-Award winning Spirited Away.
Currently, the studio owns the Ghibli Museum, a museum dedicated to showcasing the production processes and famous creations of Studio Ghibli. So for the time being, if you’re eager to satisfy your Studio Ghibli cravings, you can drop by the Ghibli Museum for a wonderfully whimsical experience!
As for Totoro, we’ll see you in 2020!
