Typhoon Talim slams into Japan today, grounding hundreds of flights to Japan’s Kyushu, Shikoku, and central regions. At least 644 domestic flights have been cancelled, according to public broadcaster NHK. Major train services have also been suspended.
The typhoon first battered the Okinawa Islands before it reached the Kagoshima Prefecture in southern Kyushu and made its way up to the Kochi Prefecture in Shikoku. It is expected to reach Hokkaido tomorrow afternoon, after crossing the length of Honshu, the largest island in Japan. Along the way, it will pass through Tokyo.
In its wake, the typhoon is dumping torrential rain, and record rainfalls were measured in some areas.
