Vogue Paris took notice of the once best-kept secret of the Philippines. The French magazine named Siargao one of the “10 islands to go on vacation” in the summer. In their words, “This destination offers a soaring tête-à-tête with wild nature, populated more by guest houses with their feet in the sand rather than five-star palaces.” We can attest to this.
In fact, we’re pretty sure a lot of Filipinos don’t want massive international attention towards Siargao because it’s considered an ideal long weekend getaway by many locals. But Filipinos are also generous by nature, so expect that they’ll be hospitable no matter the situation. Siargao is arguably the best surfing spot in the country, a great place for DIY tours as you can rent a motorcycle to go around the island, and the food will keep you coming back for more!

The Philippines’ tourism sector suffered in 2020, like every other country that took a hit during the pandemic. Hence, it wasn’t a surprise when the Philippine Department of Tourism gladly welcomed the shoutout by Vogue Paris.
“The inclusion of Siargao in the magazine’s list is a testament that the natural beauty of the Philippines remains enticing and top-of-mind among leisure travellers abroad, despite the restricted inbound travel for tourism due to the pandemic,” Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat shared in a statement.
